The second cohort of students in the VETalent program graduated on Wednesday, April 4 in front of a packed house of top executives, educators, family and friends.
Twenty veterans, who earned their certificate in application and software development from Rutgers University-Newark, now work as full-time WOS consultants to Prudential, Johnson & Johnson and Sealed Air.
Prudential Chairman and CEO John Strangfeld delivered the commencement address, in which he hailed the graduates for their service and dedication both to their country and to their efforts in transitioning to private-sector careers. Other speakers included WOS Founder and Chairman Dr. Arthur Langer; Rutgers University-Newark Chancellor Philip Yeagle; WOS Regional Vice President Lyron Andrews; and WOS Senior Program Coordinator Cecelia Towns.
The inaugural WOS Veterans cohort earned their certificates in June 2011 and currently work at Prudential. The first WOS Veterans cohort focused on business operations graduated from the certificate program at Penn State Abington in March 2012, and the second class will earn their certificates from University of North Florida in mid-April.
"I am thrilled with the results of our efforts to provide our Veterans with employment opportunities that can manifest into professional careers," Dr. Langer said. "The mission we launched with Prudential two years ago has made great strides, and we will continue to work with great companies to put more of our Veterans to work."
