The inaugural WOS Veterans cohort in Ft. Washington, Pennsylvania, graduated from the academic portion of the program on March 15, 2012. The academic courses were developed collaboratively between WOS and the sponsor company, Prudential, and were hosted by Penn State Abington using the university’s instructors and campus facilities.
Eight Iraq and Afghanistan war-era veterans representing the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines spent the previous six months studying various business-focused courses culminating in a certificate in Business Operations Support from Penn State Abington. All eight consultants now work full-time for WOS as they seek to transition into permanent Prudential employees.
Penn State Abington Chancellor Dr. Karen Wiley Sandler provided opening remarks challenging the consultants to “never stop learning” as they grow in their careers. Jonathan Graybill, vice president of operations for Individual Life at Prudential, also congratulated the cohort on a job well done and welcomed them into the next phase of the program. Other speakers included WOS Founder and Chairman Dr. Arthur Langer; WOS Regional Vice President Lyron Andrews; and WOS Program Coordinator Russ Yorks.
“We are proud of our first cohort of Veteran graduates in the Business Operations program,” Dr. Langer said. “We look forward to working with more great sponsors like Prudential to provide career opportunities for our brave Veterans.”
