Veterans On Track to Launch Civilian Careers at CareCentrix through Partnership with Workforce Opportunity Services

Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS), a nonprofit that connects individuals from veteran populations with career opportunities, and CareCentrix, a leader in home-managed healthcare, recently gathered in Stamford, Connecticut to celebrate the accomplishments of the four post-9/11 military veterans WOS recruited and trained for CareCentrix’s Vets for Data program. Working together, WOS and CareCentrix developed a 5-week, tailored curriculum to prepare participants for business data analytics roles at CareCentrix, as well as develop their technical and interpersonal skills.

The ceremony started with two presentations delivered by the four graduates: The first provided an analysis of skilled nursing facilities around the country, and the second evaluated how star ratings for different health facilities correlated to the quality of patient care. Senior leaders of CareCentrix felt the presentations and research presented identified growth opportunities for the company.

Following their presentations, the four graduates—Cristopher Pena, Michelle Schwarz, Vincent Valente, and Vanessa Visser—were awarded certificates in Business Data Analytics. Congratulatory remarks were made by CareCentrix’s Dr. Tej Anand, Chief Data Officer, Jon Terenzetti, Area Vice President, Data & Analytics Strategy, and WOS’ Founder and Chairman, Dr. Art. Langer.

“Vets for Data is a very enriching program. It’s valuable to take a step back and think about not only our own personal experiences with healthcare but what the system looks like as whole,” said Terenzetti. “Together, CareCentrix and the program’s participants examined the gaps in the home healthcare system and how CareCentrix works to fill those gaps. I’m excited to welcome them on board; they’re going to do some really good work,” added Terenzetti.

Dr. Langer echoed Terenzetti’s remarks and spoke to the importance of integrating veterans into the workforce. “You have all completed a mission,” said Dr. Langer. “Now you have a responsibility. If you continue to perform well, you’ll open up doors for the other men and women in the military seeking long-term civilian careers. You all represent something that is impressive.”

All four participants are moving onto the consultancy phase of the program, where they will be supported by WOS, both financially and through hands-on mentorship, while working full-time at CareCentrix. After approximately 9-12 months, each consultant will be eligible for hire as a Full-Time Business Data Analyst at CareCentrix.

“Three years ago, I dreamt of having this as a career. Who would have thought that after 10 years of graduating with a B.S. in Information Systems, that I would find my way back to what I really want to do...I’m truly grateful and excited for this new chapter," said Michelle Schwarz, one of the graduates. “I'm proud of the work the WOS program participants have accomplished thus far and can’t wait to see what else they bring to the table," said CareCentrix’s Anand. "This collaborative effort to diversify our workforce has already proven to be effective and impactful and we look forward to seeing what’s to come.”
