Professor Snow is widely known in the field of Strategic Management for co-authoring the classic book Organizational Strategy, Structure, and Process (McGraw-Hill, 1978) which provided a model of how organizations adapt to their industrial environments and three strategies for competing effectively (Prospector, Analyzer, and Defender).

He also co-authored Fit, Failure, and the Hall of Fame: How Firms Succeed or Fail (Free Press, 1994) which described how multiple firms can hook themselves together to form global supply chains.

A recent co-authored book, Collaborative Entrepreneurship: How Communities of Networked Firms Use Continuous Innovation to Create Economic Wealth (Stanford University Press, 2005), described a new organizational form called a collaborative community of firms that is particularly useful in knowledge-intensive industries where continuous innovation is a key strategic objective. His current research areas are innovation management, organization design, and new organizational forms.

He has been a visiting professor at Dartmouth College (Amos Tuck School) Norwegian School of Management, and the University of Oregon. Currently, he is a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Melbourne (2007-11) and the University of Aarhus School of Business in Denmark (2007-10). He has taught management subjects to executives and MBA students in more than 25 countries.

Along with several American and Danish colleagues, Professor Snow formed a worldwide community of scholars and firms dedicated to advancing the theory and practice of organization design. Called OrgDesign.com, the community was formally announced in June 2010 in Aarhus, Denmark. The community’s purpose is to improve the practice of organizational design (and redesign) and to accelerate the development of new designs that can meet the opportunities and challenges of the 21st-century global economy.

A native of San Diego, Charles currently lives with his wife, Barbara, in State College, PA. Their daughter, Vanessa, works for PricewaterhouseCoopers in San Francisco. He is a golf addict and loves to travel.
