Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS), a leading non-profit organization connecting individuals from underserved populations with transformative career opportunities, is hosting another free series - The History of the Harmonica in American Music - with musician Peter Madcat Ruth.

  • Tuesday, October 3: The Introduction of Harmonicas in the USA - Discover the origins of harmonicas and how they came to the USA.
  • Tuesday, October 10: Blues & Bending Notes - Uncover the harmonica’s profound impact on the blues and jazz genres. Examine how legendary players like Little Walter brought the harmonica to the forefront, shaping its distinct sounds.
  • Tuesday, October 17: Diatonic vs. Chromatic Harmonicas - Two distinct types of harmonicas, each with its own unique applications.
  • Tuesday, October 24: Chicago Blues & Its Offshoots to Harmonica playing today - Learn how this small but mighty instrument transformed music in American culture. The journey from the early to mid-20th century to how we hear the harmonica still today. Advances in technology include digital harmonicas and even harmonica effects pedals.
